In a discovery that has captivated automotive enthusiasts worldwide, a rare 1972 Lamborghini Miura SV has been unearthed from a sealed room within a decaying palazzo in northern Italy. This remarkable find offers a glimpse into automotive history, as the Miura SV is celebrated as one of the most iconic sports cars ever produced.
A Hidden Gem Revealed
The Miura SV, finished in the rare Bruno Metallizzato—a rich chocolate brown metallic hue—was discovered in a bricked-up room inside the deteriorating palazzo. Classic car expert Simon Kidston and his team, known as the “Miura Whisperers,” led the search, which culminated in this extraordinary find in late 2020. The car had been concealed to deter theft, and following the owner’s passing in April 2020, his family sealed the room to preserve its condition.
A Storied Past
The late owner, an Italian car enthusiast, acquired the Miura SV in 1975 for approximately 7,500,000 Lire (around $11,000 at the time). Despite numerous offers over the ensuing decades, he steadfastly refused to part with his prized possession. Prior to his ownership, the car had a few custodians, including a young woman who drove it from 1972 to 1974. For over 40 years, the Miura remained untouched, a well-guarded secret within the palazzo’s walls.
Preservation of a Classic
Notably, this Miura SV is one of only two ever produced in the Bruno Metallizzato color, enhancing its rarity and desirability. The vehicle retains its original features, including a cigarette burn on the driver’s seat and traces of hair gel on the headliner, serving as authentic markers of its history. Chassis number 5102, it is the 755th Miura built, equipped with a 3.9-liter V12 engine delivering 380 horsepower.
A Time Capsule on Wheels
The Miura SV’s untouched condition offers a unique window into the past, allowing enthusiasts to appreciate the authenticity of a vehicle that has remained unaltered for decades. Such discoveries are exceedingly rare and provide invaluable insights into automotive history.
