The most enduring expressions of craft often come from restraint. In the new Senator Meissen, Glashütte Original and Meissen Porcelain find common ground in a shared respect for patience, precision, and detail. This partnership yields two limited-edition timepieces that speak softly yet unmistakably of tradition.
Glashütte celebrates 180 years of watchmaking in 2025. Meissen, Europe’s oldest porcelain manufactory, marks over 315 years of artistic heritage. Their collaboration centers on a dial that is as delicate as it is disciplined. Hand-painted on wafer-thin porcelain, each one is fired multiple times at high temperatures to lock in color and ensure perfect flatness. The process takes days. The result is something that feels timeless.
The first version of the Senator Meissen features the “Mystic Maison” motif in fine grey brushwork set against a pure white ground. The second presents the same motif on celadon green, a shade with deep historical roots in Chinese ceramics. Each variant is limited to 150 pieces.
Both dials are framed by a 40 mm red gold case with gently domed sapphire crystal. The hands are solid gold, shaped and finished with care. There is no date window, no seconds hand. Just hours and minutes, quietly conveyed, so the artwork remains uninterrupted.
Inside, the Calibre 36-16 delivers 100 hours of power reserve and a smooth, bi-directional winding system. Its silicon balance spring resists magnetic fields and temperature fluctuations. The movement is visible through the sapphire case back, where the signature Glashütte striping, hand-engraved balance cock, and skeletonized rotor are all finished to a high standard. Even the smallest screws are heat-blued and polished by hand.
Each watch is secured with a Louisiana alligator leather strap in either dark blue or black, fitted with a red gold pin buckle. A third model, limited to just eight pieces, introduces a vivid, painterly collage of Meissen flora and fauna across the dial. It stands apart in character, but shares the same dedication to detail.
There is no urgency in these watches. No novelty for novelty’s sake. Just a quiet confidence in the value of time, and the care it takes to honor it.
