The New Mercedes-Maybach GLS Adds Calf Massages

The New Mercedes-Maybach GLS Adds Calf Massages

The Executive seats in the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS now offer, for the first time, a massage function for the calves. It is a small detail in what the company calls the model’s largest update since its 2019 introduction, and it points to a very specific philosophy of comfort. The front seats also receive a new vibration massage in the cushions.

This focus on physical ease is part of a broader effort to insulate the cabin. The new GLS features better sound insulation and additional vibration damping. An electric air filter cleans the interior air approximately every 90 seconds. The Burmester® 3D Surround Sound system now uses 15 speakers and a more powerful amplifier to manage the acoustic environment.

    The Mechanics of Serenity

The power behind this isolation comes from a developed 4.0-liter biturbo V8. It works with a 48-volt system to produce 612 horsepower, with an integrated starter-generator able to add another 23 horsepower. Maximum torque is 850 Nm. This powertrain is managed by an updated AIRMATIC air suspension, which works in concert with E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL.

The system analyzes and adapts the chassis up to 1,000 times per second. It can also use road data gathered by other Mercedes-Benz vehicles further up the road, preparing the suspension for bumps and imperfections before the GLS reaches them.

    A Revised Presence

The exterior has been revised to reflect the updates within. The front is entirely new, centered around an illuminated Maybach grille that integrates the brand mark directly into the lit frame. At the back, reworked taillights are connected by a wide decorative panel to give the vehicle a broader stance.

New individualization options include a two-tone paint finish in dark petrol metallic and verde silver metallic. The interior now incorporates the MBUX Superscreen, running on the new MB.OS operating system for faster functions and wireless updates. A generative AI-based MBUX Virtual Assistant is designed to handle more natural conversation and complex questions.

Perhaps the most telling detail is found on the 23-inch forged wheels. They can be fitted with an optional self-balancing Mercedes-Benz emblem, a small hub cap designed to always remain upright as the wheel rotates. Orders for the new GLS begin at the end of July.
