“Oh man, it’s the happiest day of my days at Ferrari so far.” For Lewis Hamilton, the finish in Canada was about a feeling, not just a result. After a weekend of mixed outcomes, the seven-time World Champion’s second-place trophy represented something more personal.
The performance comes after a period of ups and downs since his time with the Scuderia began in 2025. The Canadian Grand Prix weekend itself held its own contrasts. After showing good pace, Hamilton slipped to a P6 finish in Saturday’s Sprint, a result he described with some disappointment.
Sunday, however, was a different story.
A Car Understood
Starting from P5 on the grid, Hamilton made steady gains through the race. The drive culminated in a battle for second place against Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, a fight the Ferrari driver ultimately won.
Hamilton attributed the performance to a deeper connection with his machine and the people behind it. “I finally have the engineering team that I’ve been working towards,” he said. “I think our car is great, the guys did a fantastic job over the winter to get the car where it is, and I think I understand it a lot better and much more comfortable with it.”
He was clear about the progress. “Whilst we’re not exactly where we want to be, to get a result like this capitalises… we’ve got great reliability. This is awesome, and a big thanks to the team.”
