Rome has no shortage of extraordinary hotels, but its latest arrival offers something distinctly different. Thompson Rome has officially opened its doors, marking the Italian debut of Hyatt's lifestyle-driven Thompson Hotels brand. Located just moments from Piazza Venezia, the new property brings together historic architecture, contemporary art and refined hospitality in one of the city's most fascinating buildings.

Originally constructed in the 1940s, the building once served as the headquarters of the Italian Communist Party. Today, it has been carefully transformed into a sophisticated 69-room hotel, preserving its architectural character while introducing a modern approach to luxury.
The restoration has revealed some remarkable details, including an original marble staircase and previously concealed artworks by celebrated Italian sculptor Giò Pomodoro. These historic features now sit alongside bespoke furnishings, natural materials and a carefully curated collection of Italian art.

Art plays a central role throughout the property, with works by Francesco Del Drago, Giangaetano Patanè and Guido Strazza displayed across guest rooms and communal spaces. A rotating artist-in-residence programme will further connect the hotel with Rome's contemporary creative scene.
The hotel's 69 rooms and suites have been designed to feel more like private Roman residences than traditional hotel accommodation. Warm tones, understated detailing and custom-made furniture create an intimate atmosphere, while selected rooms offer balconies overlooking the surrounding historic streets.

Among the 19 suites, the standout is the Thompson Suite, offering 104 square metres of interior space alongside an impressive 80-square-metre private terrace overlooking Rome's rooftops.
Dining is another defining element of the experience. At LYVE Restaurant, executive chef Fabio Fioravanti presents a contemporary interpretation of Mediterranean cuisine, with a particular emphasis on seafood and coastal ingredients. Having previously worked with the Alain Ducasse group, including at the three-Michelin-starred Le Louis XV in Monaco, Fioravanti brings more than two decades of international culinary experience to the Italian capital.

Above the city, LYVE Rooftop offers a different perspective on Rome, combining panoramic views with carefully crafted cocktails, Italian aperitivi and a menu designed for sharing. Meanwhile, the Lobby Lounge provides a more relaxed setting for everything from morning coffee to evening drinks.
Beyond its rooms and restaurants, Thompson Rome is introducing a programme of cultural experiences, including culinary workshops, guided tastings and an immersive photography concept known as Empire of Light, inviting guests to discover the Eternal City from the hotel's seventh floor.

Situated on Via delle Botteghe Oscure, within walking distance of the Pantheon, Roman Forum and Colosseum, the property offers an ideal starting point for exploring Rome's historic centre.
With its combination of architectural heritage, contemporary creativity and understated luxury, Thompson Rome introduces a compelling new address to the city's hospitality scene, proving that even in a destination as timeless as Rome, there is always room for something new.
